She was singer performer designer who broke through the barriers of the music industry. Her ethnicity was Mexican American, however she was she was also a traditional. She introduced Tejano into mainstream music. It was an emerging star who's tragic death threw it into turmoil. And as is common for a gifted, charming young performer is lost too quickly, many mourned the potential she was yet to achieve. The tragic death by shooting of Tejano singer Selena caused a resurgence in the Latino community that can be thought of as similar to the responses in the wake of the deaths of Elvis Presley and John Lennon. Selena was a wildly loved singer by Latinos throughout North America. But her songs touched the hearts of both young and the old. Selena was a hot, flamboyant performer on stage and was often called her as the Latina Madonna. In her off-stage life, Selena was also an outstanding role model, as she was active in anti-drug and AIDS campaigns.
